Parrot Cay & COMO Shambhala Retreat

Hotel Feature |

A boutique resort on a private 1,000 acre island. Do I have your attention yet? I thought so… That is the setting of the beautiful Parrot Cay resort in Turks & Caicos. Comprised of just 60 rooms, suites, & beachfront villas, all featuring muslin-draped four poster beds, Parrot Cay is a classic Caribbean getaway. Fly into Providenciales, Grand Turk and take a private car service to the Parrot Cay Resort private marina where you then take a private 35-minute boat ride to the island where you are met by a golf cart & whisked away to your room, villa, or private home.

In addition to the beautiful setting of the hotel, Parrot Cay also features an award-winning holistic spa, delicious & healthy cuisine, & impeccable staff that ensures relaxation & serenity during your stay. Even the most seasoned of Caribbean travelers will agree that the cuisine of Parrot Cay is among the very best, featuring not only Caribbean inspired, but Asian & Mediterranean infused dishes, using the freshest of ingredients.

I love the fresh & contemporary approach to Caribbean excellence at Parrot Cay. Whether you want to spend your days kicking back & relaxing on the powder white sand beaches or out exploring the island, the staff of Parrot Cay has the expertise & capabilities to maximize your experience to the fullest.

One of the biggest attractions of Parrot Cay is the COMO Shambhala Spa featuring treatments such as Japanese baths, massage rooms, Asian and Ayurvedic therapies, yoga and pilates studios, and private spaces for couples treatments or romantic meals.

If you get bored relaxing at the spa or enjoying one of two breathtaking infinity pools, make your way to the mile-long powdery white sand beach, completely staffed & full of water sport options & activities such as diving, bonefishing, windsurfing, & kayaking. Still not satisfied? The hotel can also arrange for expeditions to other islands nearby.

The rates for Parrot Cay are seasonal & many packages are available with special offers, discounts for multiple night stays, or include spa services or food packages. Contact us if you’re interested in visiting this island paradise!

Riviera Maya

Real Honeymoon |

Riviera Maya is one of my favorite places in Mexico to send couples, so here we have another beautiful honeymoon adventure at the beautiful Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita. John & Cindi really took advantage of what the hotel had to offer, from tequila tastings & cooking classes to catamaran rides & kayaking, and they had an absolute blast! Here’s what John & Cindi had to say about their honeymoon.

Where did you go? Riviera Maya, Mexico

What resort did you stay in? Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita

Why did you decide to honeymoon in Mexico and how did you come to this decision? We chose Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita because it seemed to have everything we were looking for in a honeymoon and then some! It felt like it was one of the more luxurious choices we saw in the Caribbean and we loved going in to the trip knowing the experience was ‘all inclusive’ and we definitely couldn’t wait to enjoy all of the things that the ‘honeymoon package’ had to offer. The in-room plunge pool helped our decision too ☺

What was your favorite part about Zoetry? We loved all of the different activities offered at the resort (cooking classes, yoga, tequila tasting, Mayan rituals, releasing baby sea turtles into the ocean and MORE). Also, one very special thing about this resort is how extremely nice and enthusiastic the people who worked there were. They went out of their way to make sure that you had everything you could possibly want or need and made a point to learn our names, remember our favorite food and drinks – that made it very personal and special! Oh and we loved the daily fresh sushi bar…. Sorry, that was three favorite parts.

What did you like about Riviera Maya? The scenery was picturesque and breathtaking! The weather was perfect and it was just a short flight away!

Did you receive any special honeymoon amenities or upgrades? Yes, we chose the ‘Honeymoon in Paradise’ package which included:
— Private airport transfers with a glass of champagne and strawberries
— Unpacking and pressing service on arrival
— Large red rose floral arrangement in the suite
— Specialty spa basket in the room on arrival
— Sunrise champagne breakfast on the suit terrace
— Nightly “lavish chocolate” turn down service
— Romantic dinner on the beach
— Handmade beach bag
— Special turndown service one evening with rose petals, scented oil bubble bath and the champagne
— Specialty 80 min Couples Massage
— 10% discount on all Spa treatments
— Two hour catamaran cruise in the ocean

If you could have changed one thing about your trip, what would it be? It was great – we can’t think of a single thing! Well… maybe we would have caught at least one fish on our fishing trip but you can’t control those things, haha. I guess that’s why they call is fishing and not catching!

If you had to pick just one, what would be your favorite honeymoon memory? We really enjoyed the catamaran cruise. It was a lot of fun!

Looking back, is there anything you would tell other couples planning their honeymoon? From our perspective a quick flight to a relaxing and all inclusive resort was a great choice! We definitely underestimated how exhausted we would be after all of the activities leading up to the wedding and of course celebrating the BIG DAY! It was so nice to top off the wedding experience in a relaxed and indulgent atmosphere! We tried all the food and drinks that we could manage to enjoy and never had to worry about our wallets. This atmosphere was a nice treat after wedding planning ☺

What 3 words would you use to describe your honeymoon? Perfect, Tranquil, Indulgent

Thanks again, John & Cindi for sharing with us! It was such a pleasure working with you two!

Four Seasons Hualalai – The Big Island

Hotel Feature |

After our time on Maui, we headed over to the Four Seasons on the Big Island for some rest & relaxation. We instantly fell in love with the Four Seasons, so much in fact that we hardly left the property! Rarely will you find me spending this much time at a resort when I’m traveling, but they have so much to offer you don’t need to leave! Here’s just a few of the amazing amenities that I loved about the resort.

  • — Swim-up bar at the adults only infinity pool has delicious shaved ice cocktails
  • — Champagne picnics at sunset every night
  • — Beach BBQs every Saturday night
  • — Fantastic rooftop Sushi restaurant with ocean views
  • — Beautiful salt water pool with thousands of fish for snorkeling
  • — Sting Ray feedings every afternoon
  • — Comfy two-person beach chairs to watch sea turtles playing in the waves at your feet
  • — Super cute boutique where you can pick up anything you might have forgotten to pack
  • — Luxury spa lined with waterfalls where you can make your own lotions & perfumes
  • — Restaurants and bars directly on the sand, overlooking the ocean that they light up at night. All of the restaurants use delicious local ingredients and have live music nightly.
  • — Fire pits and chairs on the sand for you to enjoy drinks before or after dinner
  • — Hourly amenities offered by the pool, everything from fruit skewers & cold mint towels to sunglass cleaning, sunscreen, & aloe vera!
  • — An array of beach activities including stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, tennis, ping-pong, corn hole & more! Do as much or as little as you would like!

Sometimes, with resorts as large as this one, guests can feel overwhelmed, but not here. The resort is spread out along the beach so it doesn’t feel very crowded, and feels more like a smaller boutique hotel. It has the feel of a small & intimate resort but with all of the amenities of a larger one. To be honest, words and pictures don’t do it justice! You’ll just have to go visit for yourself!
Isn’t this place so amazing?! We just loved it! I’m dreaming I was there right now!

The Grand Wailea

Hotel Feature |

While we were in Maui, we stayed at the beautiful Grand Wailea Resort, located in the heart of Wailea. We loved this resort!  The location couldn’t be better for exploring the island of Maui.

The Grand Wailea is a fabulous property with a ton of amenities and impeccable service. The property has a bunch of different pools, including an adults only pool and a swim up grotto pool bar! There’s also a big water slide that’s a ton of fun!!  There are great trails along the beach, which was a fun way to start every day.  Plus the location is perfect for exploring Wailea and the island of Maui!

A few tips for staying there.  They only have valet parking, and the valet gets really busy.  So call ahead and then your car will be waiting for you. Also, this resort is really popular with families, as is almost everywhere in Maui.  Try to visit during a time when school is in session as there will be much fewer families.

We stayed in a Napua Suite located in the Napua Tower which I would definitely recommend.  Our room was large with a living room and a spacious balcony with ocean views.  By staying in the Napua Tower you also have a special concierge, as well as complimentary breakfast and a cocktail hour every evening.

Maui Travel Guide

Destination Spotlight |

I recently visited the islands of Maui and the Big Island in Hawaii.  I am excited to share with you some tips for anyone visiting these beautiful islands! There’s so much to do and see on each island, plus beautiful beaches to relax on.  Perfect for honeymoon couples wanting to relax and have some adventure!

Maui Revealed: This is the best guidebook for helpful tips on the best beaches, restaurants, and drives around the island.  Be sure to get the most recent edition available.

One of the best things about Maui is how easy it is to navigate around the island. I most certainly recommend renting a car. Look over a map to orient yourself with the island and you should be fine. There are a lot of signs all over the island too, that make navigating even easier. It’s also great having your own car because you can do quite a bit of exploring, which we most certainly did.

Here’s the rundown of the areas and beaches we ventured out to. If you’re going to a beach away of your hotel, remember to bring towels with you.

  • Downtown Lahaina – This is a really nice area and has a lot of restaurants on the water. There’s also good shopping here too.
  • Wailea – I think that Wailea is the nicest area on the island. It feels much more upscale & exclusive than other parts of the island and is also home to some of the best hotels & restaurants.  I would definitely recommend staying in this area.
  • The Shops at Wailea – This is an outdoor mall with great shops and restaurants.
  • Walking Trails –There are trails right along the beach in front of the hotels in Wailea.  Great way to start out your day!  Keep an eye out for dolphins jumping in the waves right off shore!
  • Makena Beach – Beautiful beach with pretty calm waters. The parking is super convenient too. After a hot day at the beach, make sure to grab some shaved ice for the ride home!

Makena Beach

Kai Kanini Catamaran

Not only are there so many beautiful areas of Maui, there’s also so much to do!

  • Helicopter Tours: One thing I love to tell clients about doing in the beginning of a Hawaiian escape is a helicopter tour. Helicopter tours in Hawaiian are a MUST! The geography of the island is breathtaking, and there’s no better way to see it all than from above.
  • Zip Lining: If you haven’t done this before you must do it in Maui!  This is so fun and the views are gorgeous!
  • Kai Kanani: Sail out to Molokini for a fun day of snorkeling & basking in the sun. They also offer sunset sailing trips.
  • Road to Hana: This is a big attraction in Maui and is definitely something you should see if you’re visiting the island.   Maui Revealed has great tips on where to stop along the way to see the best waterfalls! Below are pictures of our Road to Hana adventure…

Now for the best part- where to eat! Here are a few delicious spots that we enjoyed in Maui.

  • Lahania Grill – One of the best restaurants on the island.  Be sure to make reservations.  Grab a cocktail at a beachfront restaurant to watch the sunset before dinner!
  • Mulligans on the Blue – Fun sports bar with great food as well.
  • Capische – Italian restaurant in Hotel Wailea with incredible food!  This was our favorite meal in Maui.  Be sure to make reservations and ask to sit in the gardens!
  • Monkeypod Kitchen – Delicious restaurant in Wailea – lots of good variety
  • Tommy Bahamas – Really nice restaurant with great food & live music on most nights

Check back later this week to hear about the fabulous places we stayed in Maui and the Big Island!
