Riviera Maya

Real Honeymoon |

To continue our Riviera Maya theme of the past few posts, today I am excited to share Jordan & Katie’s Honeymoon in Riviera Maya.  They stayed at one of my favorite hotels and the site of our destination wedding photo shoot!  They had an amazing honeymoon and are such an adorable couple!

Where did you stay in Riviera Maya?

Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita

How did you pick this spot?

We were looking for something small and quiet so that we could completely relax without many distractions. Plus, coming from Atlanta, Cancun was a quick 2 1/2 hour direct flight which meant we could be on the beach the same day we traveled.

What was your favorite part about the resort?

It was a total toss up between the food & the service. EVERY meal was amazing & every staff member we came into contact with was eager to help us enjoy our stay. Many of them even knew us by name!

What did you like about Riviera Maya?

The beautiful natural scenery including lots of wildlife. There were peacocks, iguanas, & crabs throughout the area. Our alarm every morning was the peacock who set up shop right outside our front door.

Did you get any special honeymoon amenities or upgrades?

We had the honeymoon upgrade package that included a private catamaran sail, breakfast in bed, a couples massage, & a private dinner on the beach.

If you had to pick just one, what would be your favorite honeymoon memory?

Definitely the private catamaran sail. It was just us, the captain, and a waiter serving us food and mimosas. It was so surreal to have such a private and exclusive experience. We felt like millionaires.

Looking back, is there anything you would tell other couples planning their own honeymoons?

Think very carefully about the type of experience you want on your honeymoon. Do you want something high energy with lots of activities and excursions? Or do you want a more boutique experience where the focus is around rest and relaxation? Identifying this first helped us narrow down our options and ultimately choose the resort that was best for us.

What 3 words would you use to describe your honeymoon?

Luxurious, exotic, & PERFECT!

Such great advice!  Thanks so much for sharing your honeymoon Jordan and Katie!  Interested in going to Riviera Maya for your honeymoon? Contact us!

After our post the other day on our fabulous wedding shoot at Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita, I was totally inspired to do a Styled Travels on some things I would bring on my next trip down there. The best part about Riviera Maya is that it has a little bit of everything, so you can dress up one night and throw on a pair of bright colored shorts, a white tee, and some flip flops the next.

Riviera Maya Wedding Photo Shoot

Press |

Earlier this year I got to take a little trip down to Riviera Maya with Summer Watkins of Grey Likes Weddings and Troy & Aimee Grover of Troy Grover Photography and we had such a blast! We put together inspiration shoots for destination brides with two of my favorite hotels as the backdrops. So first up is the wedding shoot that we did at the Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita. As per usual, Summer worked her styling magic for the shoot and at times even played photographer while Troy and Aimee modeled for the shoot. If you look close, you might see another familiar face standing in as the “Bridesmaid” :) We first did a rehearsal dinner shoot on the hotel’s catamaran. I love that Zoetry always has their catamaran available for guests.

If that’s not cute enough for you, keep reading because it just keeps getting better. The best part about this shoot is that it is totally “do-able” for brides interested in destination weddings. Everything we put together was something that was easily packable for airplane travel or was constructed out of local products (like the boutonniere & bouquets). During the shoot, we even got an impromptu tequila tasting, thanks to Zoetry!

Want to see more from this fun shoot? Check out the other features on Style Me Pretty & 100 Layer Cake. There’s also a feature on it in Utterly Engaged Issue 16!

Check back tomorrow to see the honeymoon inspiration shoot from Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun!

European Cruise

Real Honeymoon |

Instead of going on a typical European honeymoon, Edzel & Joann opted to cruise around some of the best ports in Europe. Such a fun alternative to flying around to different destinations! Here’s what the two newlyweds had to say about their honeymoon.

Where did you go?

We went to Venice and stayed for 2 nights. From Venice we boarded a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The cruise ship’s port of calls were Split Croatia, Naples Italy, Rome Italy, Florence Italy, Toulon France and Barcelona Spain.

How did you decide on these destinations?

We wanted to go somewhere we’ve never been to. Joann has always wanted to go to Italy (especially Venice) and I’ve always wanted to go to Rome. Naturally a cruise would be the best option to see as many places as possible while keeping the cost and hassle of traveling down. We’ve also been on a couple of cruises before and we’ve enjoyed it.

Did you like where you stayed?

We stayed at the Westin in Venice. We were expecting a tiny European hotel room but were pleasantly surprised with a good sized room. There was even candies and champagne delivered to our room, compliments of the hotel, as a honeymoon gift. Very nice touch. The hotel was very close to St. Marks square so it was easy to get to and from the water bus stop. For the cruise, we stayed in a stateroom with a sea view. The room was as expected in terms of size if not a little bit bigger. We did have a small couch which was nice. One thing we did not like is the vibration of the the ship was being transferred to the bed too much.

What did you think about the destinations you visited?

Venice was beautiful and thinking back it was our favorite destination. We both loved walking around the city and exploring for cool things to see and good food to eat. Split was nice. We walked around but mainly stayed by the water. Naples was great. We joined a tour and got to see Pompeii, walked around Sorrento and toured a farm where they made olive oil and cheese. Rome was amazing. We went to Vatican City which was unbelievable. Florence was another great stop, especially for my wife. The city offered a plethora of shopping. Toulon was ok. The cold weather really hindered our sight seeing on our final day on the cruise.

Did you receive any special amenities or upgrades during your trip?

We received free champagne and candy from the Westin in Venice since Katie told them it was our honeymoon. On the cruise we joined an evening event for honeymooners. They had a raffle for prizes. We had champagne and cake.

What was your favorite part of your honeymoon?

Venice was our favorite, it was more relaxing. Enjoying the scenery, gondola rides and great food. When we were on the cruise, every day was packed full of activities. We wanted to see everything, so it got tiring.

Do you have any suggestions for couples going on a similar honeymoon?

I suggest just getting lost in Venice and exploring whatever you find. It was fun looking around the little shops and cafes everywhere. On the cruise try to plan out your activities early and find some down time to relax also.

What three words would you use to describe your honeymoon?

Fun, tiring, and relaxing at the same time!
