Ok, so not quite the Midwest, but almost…
As you venture out from the West Coast you’ll eventually hit Colorful Colorado. Only twenty minutes from Vail, there is Beaver Creek, a beautiful location for romance and tranquility. Beaver Creek Lodge is perfect for skiing, but when the snow melts, there are a ton of other amazing options that include horseback riding, chairlift rides, hiking and championship golf. The resort has only 72 suites and is perfect for year-round vacationing.
Now, head toward the midwest, and stop in Chicago. Everyone knows about the windy city, and you may have even been there before, but this time, you need to check out The James Hotel. Just a few blocks from Grand Ave and only 40 minutes from O’Hare International Airport, The James has an excellent location and modern look and feel. Plus, you’re so close to Navy Pier and Lake Michigan!
And, while you’re already in the Midwest, you might want to check out The Delafield in Delafield, Wisconsin. You’ll feel transported to another time, a much simpler one at that. The Delafield includes a designer spa, luxurious beds, flat-screens and 38 hotel suites. It is located between Wilwaukee and Madison. There are even honeymoon suites complete with hand-carved canopy beds.
Sure, Wisconsin may not seem like the most romantic place in the world, but when you’re there with your new spouse, do you really need much more than a gorgeous hotel room and some sights to see?

Every once in a while a couple will decide to take an in-house vacation. In the US that is. So for this week, Ever After Honeymoons is going to focus on National honeymoons! Let’s start on the West Coast (or the best coast).
Washington starts this coast, and The Inn at Langley is a gorgeous place to start your honeymoon. The Inn is a contemporary-rustic hotel on Whidbey Island, Washington. It is a quiet resort and you can get completely lost in it’s charm and romance. From there, you can even take an hour car’s ride and a short, but sweet, ferry trip into Seattle.
And then there’s Oregon, and you’ll want – no, need – to check out The Allison Inn and Spa in Newberg. Only 45 minutes from Portland, this beautiful hotel is entirely charming and relaxing. And talk about location! It borders a working farm and vineyard (which is pictured below as a room’s view!). The spa has 12 treatment rooms, there is an indoor pool as well as romantic walks to take all along the property.
Big Sur, California rolls around Highway 1 for about 90 miles and jets up from the ocean where the Santa Lucia Mountains meet the water. Big Sur has a tourist-dependent economy, but a peaceful and pleasant feel. The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur is a fabulous choice for a romantic getaway. It is built into a cliff 1,200 feet about the ocean. The Inn has a spa, as well as private yoga lessons, meditation, couple’s massage, guided hikes and pools. If you want to spend a few nights along the breathtaking Northern California Coast, The Post Ranch Inn is perfect for you.
So, maybe you’re making your way down the coast, how about right before the border, in Coronado, California. There lies the Beach Village at The Del. Surfing, kayaking, a fitness center and beach bonfires are all offered at Coronado Beach, where the resort is located. San Diego has always been a gorgeous California location, but Coronado is a perfect little vacation spot. There is so much to see and explore.
There is also the famous Hotel del Coronado which was built in 1888, and has housed presidents, athletes and many famous actors. It is a beautiful place to check out! Obviously these are just a few options, but if you’re looking to explore the West Coast and these don’t fit your fancy, let Ever After Honeymoons customize the perfect trip for you! Be sure to check back to see what the Midwest has to offer you honeymooners!
With the rising fees for checking bags on airlines and the fact that my bag seems to get lost so frequently, I carry on my suitcase as often as possible. This isn’t easy with the restrictions on liquids though.
The Target aisles don’t have the greatest selection of hair products, and squeezing liquids into a separate 3 oz container can be a total mess! To the rescue- the website 3 Fl Oz which has an amazing selection of the best hair and beauty products, all under 3 oz!
They also have a great selection of sunscreen which I highly recommend bringing with you. Most hotels sell sunscreen but the prices are usually much higher.
Before you bring your own shampoo and conditioner, check your hotel’s website to see what line they carry. Many luxury hotels already provide really high end lines, and this will free up space for another bikini in your bag!
Hotel Esperanza is a villa-style hotel four miles away from Cabo San Lucas. This intimate resort is above private beaches, includes swim-up bars, an infinify pool, ocean kayaks and hammocks. This five star hotel features 50 casita suites, 36 residential villas and six luxury suites.
Room amenities can be found here.
Breakfast is included daily in the oceanfront restaurant and the resort also includes a full-service salon. Esperanza features four restaurants each with unique dining selections. (And do you see that incredible night view? Talk about a romantic dinner for two!)
The hotel was voted no. 1 Spa in Latin America by Travel and Leisure 2007, no. 2 in Mexico and one of Mexico’s Most Romantic Resorts in Destination Weddings and Honeymoons 2007.
Children under the age of 16 have limited access in the hotel, so there is a good chance that children will not be around during your romantic getaway. On site, or near the hotel you can find bike rentals, a driving range, hiking trails, parasailing, snorkeling, tennis, windsurfing and many other activities, some of which have fees attached.
This resort is not one to overlook as you venture out on your honeymoon. Contact Ever After Honeymoons if you are interested in rates for your honeymoon!
Kathryn and James went on an incredibly romantic honeymoon in the gorgeous Caribbean. Oh yeah, did I mention they sailed through it? I had quite the challenge- they had already contacted two other travel agents, friends of theirs no less, who couldn’t find them their perfect honeymoon within their budget. But I was up for the challenge, and made all of their honeymoon dreams come true! The couple, both Pennsylvania natives, are beach lovers and knew that after the wedding relaxation was key.
We were advised that after the craziness of the wedding, we would want to spend the first few days just decompressing and relaxing, Kathryn said.Their dreamy honeymoon started at the Peter Island Resort, (this place is unbelievable!) a private island resort, followed by days of sailing with only a chef and a captain, oh, and each other. Not only was the idea of it all so unique, it also was special to the couple: Not only does James love sailboats, but he proposed to Kathryn on St. Thomas on a sail boat.
The sailing trip allowed them to see so much more than they could have if they just stayed in one place.
The couple sailed to Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke, Cooper Island, baths at Virgin Gorda. They even snorkeled in caves and over shipwrecks!
They loved the fact that they were able to dress down at their all-inclusive resort, but still dressed up for dinner daily. And we loved the fact that they wanted to share their story!
Their wonderful honeymoon was also featured in issue five of Utterly Engaged! Private chartered sailboats can be taken to many destinations around the world, and probably aren’t as expensive as you might think. Contact me if you are interested in taking a private chartered sailboat for your honeymoon!
